Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, UKZN launched a COVID-19 War Room which played a significant role in coordinating the facility in cooperation with the College of Health Sciences and a multidisciplinary team of medical experts.
In partnership with the team, UKZN was at the forefront of creating and organising the rollout of a high-impact health awareness campaign that provided staff and students with information on the virus and its implications. The aim was to help reduce the risk of contracting the virus to the UKZN community and the possibility of the infection being transmitted to others. Our experts were sought after by the media and health stakeholders to provide advice and comments. The launch was well received and published on various media platforms.
A COVID-19 website was created to facilitate the dissemination of information aimed at combating the spread of COVID-19. The website also featured detailed information about return to campus protocols. Since its launch, the website has been viewed over 82 000 times – most visitors being from South Africa, United States, Eswatini, Nigeria, United Kingdom and Zimbabwe.
