The 2014 Red Bull UKZN DJ Campus clash was won by Rhys Fataar (DJ Nomadik). Rhys is a 4th year Public Administration student on the Westville Campus.
Qualifiers were held on the Westville and Howard College campuses on 8th May. Approximately 20 students participated on each campus. 8 students were chosen to participate in the finals which was held on 14 May 2014 on the Howard College Campus. Rhys wooed the crowd in his allocated three minutes and was the most popular choice.
“Music has always been a big part of my family and my life and I try relate everything I do to music whether it be playing guitar or drumming against a table” said Rhys. His first break came in 2011 where he was given an opportunity by the manager of a club in Durban. “The main reason why I play music is because I love music and I love making people happy. When I see people dancing without worrying what other people think of them, that makes me the most happy as I know I’ve brought a group of strangers together’ said Rhys.
The main prize is an opportunity to record at the Red Bull Studios in Cape Town. The entire package; including travel and accommodation, is taken care of by Red Bull. There were also other prizes of a Red Bull Campus Clash cap & pull over, and a pair of Skull Candy Headphones.
