UKZN Community Assists Staff Affected by Fire
The UKZN community has assisted 23 staff members affected by a fire at Umgudulu Road, an informal settlement in Reservoir Hills in Durban.
Staff at the Department of Student Residence Affairs (DSRA), and the Campus and Risk Management Services divisions lost all their possessions after the devastating fire ravaged their community in August this year.
UKZN’s Corporate Relations Division asked for help for the individuals and received donations of clothing, household items and Pick n Pay shopping vouchers for each victim.
Ms Normah Zondo, Acting Executive Director: Corporate Relations Division, handed out the donations to staff members, saying she was grateful to colleagues, students and alumni who donated to the worthy cause.
Ms Lungile Skhosana of the DSRA recalled the day her home was destroyed in the blaze and the heartache she felt after running back to the house when she heard about the fire, only to find it burned to the ground.
Skhosana thanked the University for all their donations and Mr Sbusiso Khumalo, the Head of DSRA on the Westville campus, for his support.
