Some of these programmes are a collaborative effort. The RLCs encourage Residence Assistants and House Committees to invite guests who are experts in their fields to a variety of workshops, seminars and other activities, to come to our residences and impart valuable knowledge to students.
Motivation :
he programme/ training is designed to equip the newly appointed RLOs and RAs with the necessary skills ahead of the challenging task of assisting residence students. These skills range from soft people’s skills to tough decisions to disciple students who violable the DSRA rules. Among the appointed candidates, some have only been Tutors, Library Assistants or Demonstrators: they have not been fully exposed to program planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation. Some have not been exposed to traumatic like suicidal actions, physical fights, rape, fire and many more, therefore, this training is of significance.
The training is targeted to successful incumbents who will be holding the RA positions in all 5 campuses respectively. Various internal and external stakeholders will also take part, including: Residence Administrators, A&B Officers, RLOs, RLC, Campus Head, CHASU,RMS, SPORTS, Student Support, Mentorship, Student Governance and DUT Representatives.

Worth mentioning is that the process starts with recruitment. This is where RLCs set up a meeting amongst themselves to sit and design the advert and agree on the terms and the requirements. This is in keeping with UKZN Human Resource Recruitment and Employment Policies. The recruitment is takes the following form:
- Designing and publish the Advert
- Shortlisting and suitable candidates (appointment if Selection committee, printing and duplicating CVs, Designing Register).
- Interviews (preparing a register, scoresheets, signing of confidentiality clause etc.)
